About Me & My Lineage

My martial arts journey began at the age of 7 years old when I was exposed to a range of disciplines including Tai Chi, Xingyi, and Karate. In 1992, I was introduced to Wing Chun, and its emphasis on efficiency, structure, and directness immediately resonated with me. During these early days, I trained under Sifu Oliver Cheng in the Yuen Kay Shan Wing Chun lineage where I had the honor of meeting and training with Grandmaster Sum Nung in the Yuen Kay Shan Wing Chun system in both Canberra and then later in Guangzhou.

My lineage was further deepened through direct instruction from Grandmaster Ip Ching, the son of the legendary Ip Man. Under his guidance, I gained exposure to the complete Hong Kong Wing Chun system, reinforcing not only the technical aspects of the art but also its philosophy and discipline. This training has been central to my development, instilling in me the importance of precision, relaxation, and structure in both practice and teaching.

In addition to Wing Chun, I also train in Lam Family Hung Kuen under Master Lam Chun Chung, son of the legendary Grandmaster Lam Cho, nephew of Grandmaster Lam Sai Wing. This has broadened my martial understanding through its emphasis on strength, conditioning, and the integration of hard and soft power, complementing the efficiency and sensitivity cultivated through Wing Chun.

Alongside my training, I have participated extensively in traditional kung fu competitions, specialising in routine-based performance rather than sparring. I represented Hong Kong at the 2017 World Kung Fu Championships in Emei Mountain, competing in weapon and forms categories at an international level where I was honoured to win a Silver Medal. I also won four gold medals in the Hong Kong Traditional Kung Fu Championships between 2017 and 2019. These experiences reflect a focus on technical precision, structure, and the expression of traditional systems, rather than fighting competition.

Over the years, I have continued to receive guidance from senior practitioners within my lineage, ensuring that what I teach remains authentic, practical, and rooted in tradition. My goal is to pass on not only techniques, but the principles behind them—helping students develop sensitivity, efficiency, discipline, and resilience both in martial arts and in everyday life.
